Settled OverseasSomeday Doesn’t Have to Become Never.
South coast · 1-bed centre (resident-grade) US$233/mo — Livingcost, 21 Jun 2026
A working sugar town wrapped around one of the Caribbean's grand enclaves: Casa de Campo, with its marina, golf courses, and the stone artists' village of Altos de Chavón above the river. Bayahíbe's dive boats are twenty minutes east; the capital's hospitals about an hour west. Boaters, golfers, and anyone who wants resort infrastructure with a real Dominican town attached.
Skip it if you want the enclave without the gates: the nicest amenities sit behind Casa de Campo's gates — and its price tag. The town itself is workaday, not polished.
Not moving on a pension? There are other routes. The country page separates them — pension, passive income, remote work, family, and long stays — with their limits. Anything unverified is marked as a gap.
Figures: Settled Overseas cost snapshots dated 6 Oct 2026. The local RD$-priced tier stays a printed gap: a 2023 classified (RD$20,000–23,000, header/body disagree) and a May-2025 prose point ('from ~US$500') print as a dated disagreement, never an average. Bayahíbe/Dominicus long-term stock: vacation pricing only.
The national frame: Medicare pays $0 for care in the Dominican Republic (Medicare.gov, fetched 6 Oct 2026), so residents run on Dominican (ARS) or international plans — and no official price table is pinned anywhere, so confirm any plan's terms in writing. Centro Médico Central Romana (listing-verified 24/7: emergency care, 24-hour pharmacy, lab, ambulance) covers most needs in town, with Hospital El Buen Samaritano alongside (directory listing). The deepest bench — CEDIMAT, in the capital — is about an hour away by motorway.
South-coast Caribbean inside the country-wide June–November hurricane frame. Casa de Campo's premium bleeds into local prices (visible in the food figures our sources captured in Aug 2025).
La Romana's own airport (LRM) serves the enclave traffic; the motorway west puts Santo Domingo's hospitals — and SDQ's US nonstops — about an hour away. Bayahíbe's dive boats are twenty minutes east.
A Casa de Campo villa-owner community, with a smaller long-stay retiree scene than the north coast (guide label). Outside the enclave, daily life is a Dominican working town — in Spanish.
Altos de Chavón looks like a 16th-century Mediterranean village above the Chavón River. It opened in 1982 — with Frank Sinatra singing in its stone amphitheater.

This page is education, built from public sources checked on the dates shown. It is not legal, tax, or medical advice; residency outcomes and underwriting stay with the Dominican consulates and the DGM, insurers, and your own licensed advisors. Figures marked with a directory or broker name were read from that source; anything we could not verify is printed as a gap.
