Settled OverseasSomeday Doesn’t Have to Become Never.
Canary Islands · Planning band ≈ €2,200–€3,000/mo — an estimate, see the budget snapshot
Island budgets run lower than Palma's, and the south coasts stay springlike year-round — winter daytime temperatures average 21–25°C from November to March (reported Oct 2026). This is the warm-all-winter option, priced below the mainland sweet spots.
Skip the islands if distance is a deal-breaker: every US trip is a long connection, the mainland is a flight away, and healthcare thins out fast outside the two capitals.
Not moving on a pension? There are other routes. The country page separates them — pension, passive income, remote work, family, and long stays — with their limits. Anything unverified is marked as a gap.
The gap we print as a gap: our €2,200–€3,000 band is estimated from Las Palmas crowd data, not a surveyed couple total — and Tenerife-specific couple budgets are thinner still. Your dossier builds the island number from your actual rent.
Figures: Settled Overseas Spain research (fact spine read 7 Oct 2026) plus checks dated Oct 2026, as marked. Anything not verified is printed as a gap.
Deep in the capitals — Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Las Palmas is on the national short list of large public university hospitals plus private groups) — and thinner in the interior, exactly as the country page says. Medicare pays $0 (Medicare.gov, April 2026); Convenio Especial after year 1, €157/mo per person at 65+.
The springlike south coasts are the product: winter days averaging 21–25°C (November–March, reported Oct 2026), mild evenings — the temperate option while Andalusia bakes and northern Spain cools. Gap: station-level AEMET normals still to be added.
Tenerife is the transatlantic exception: United flies seasonal US nonstops to Tenerife (checked Oct 2026), and Air Canada's Toronto/Montreal services from late October 2026 are reported as the only North America–Canaries nonstops (Aviation Week, Oct 2026). Gran Canaria (LPA): no nonstop found — plan on Madrid or a European hub. Between the islands, ferries and short flights; to the mainland, everything flies.
Established foreign-resident coasts on both islands — the Canaries are one of the places physician-level English is reliable in private care — with Spanish daily life in the capitals and the north of each island.
Two Atlantic islands, two capitals — Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria — an ocean world of its own that happens to run on Spanish paperwork and the euro.
